Manage Addiction: Empowering Self-Management for Better Health

Addiction is a chronic disease that requires long-term management.

Medinexo® members have access to a numerous number of scales to assess patient well-being.

The Self-Management Self-Test (SMST) is a five-item self-assessment scale designed to measure self-management competence in individuals with or without a psychiatric disorder.

The SMST has been validated against 5 mental health scales to identify the potential presence of depression, anxiety, stress, fatigue and burnout.

The existence of these challenges puts a strain on sobriety and puts health at risk.

The SMST is a quick self assessment to help identify these challenges before they lead to loss of sobriety.”

The SMST assesses five dimensions of self-management.

Taken together, these dimensions reflect the psychological construct “self-management competence”:

  •  Awareness of reality (be aware of internal state of mind and perceive external reality)
  • Interpersonal relationships (sustain relationships and maintain social contacts)
  • Orientation towards the future (set priorities and plan my own future)
  • Decision making (choose among several options and make decisions)
  • Taking action (do what realistically can be done and act effectively)
